What is Lysine?
Lysine is an essential amino acid needed for growth & to help maintain nitrogen balance in the body.
Is Lysine an effective treatment for cold sores (Herpes simplex 1 virus)?
Studies have shown that taking 1,000mg a day of a Lysine amino acid supplement may reduce recurrences of cold sores by suppressing the virus that causes these sores.
Should other supplements be taken with Lysine to reduce the recurrence of cold sores?
Vitamin C and Zinc are often combined with Lysine in cold sore supplement formulas. Vitamin C has anti-viral properties and stimulates the immune system. Zinc helps to support the immune system and heal the lesion.
