Spring Cleaning Your Liver
Spring Sleepiness
Spring sleepiness is not only for the bears, we too have a similar experience.
In Chinese Medicine spring is a pivotal season, when winter (Greater Yin) gives way for the creation of summer (Greater Yang). During this transformative period our energy is waxing and waning as the yin and yang are moving in opposing directions to establish an energetic pattern that matches the season. Currently with this energetic change we can be experiencing 'spring sleepiness' as our energy is moving toward the Greater Yang (summer) phase.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine The Five Elements of Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water are reflected in many things, for example the emotions, seasons, flavours and organs. The Wood Element is associated with the season of spring and the liver organ. It is a perfect time to rejuvenate, replenish and nourish the energy of the liver because in this season cleansing the liver is most supported by the energetic rhythms.
Just like some of us have a natural urge to 'spring clean' our homes this too is important for our bodies. Choosing to eat foods that are lighter on digestion and more yang in quality support the natural energetic transformation. Eat more vegetables, fruit and legumes and drink plenty of water and herbal teas such as green tea at this time of year.
I would recommend taking supplements that support liver cleansing. Some people choose a more vigorous and intense cleanse whereas others may take a gentler approach. It is important to take into consideration your constitution, general health and age when thinking about doing a liver detox. It is also worth mentioning that you can, during the first few days of a liver detox, feel 'below par', agitated and experience malaise and headaches as the body is 'spring cleaning'.
The Brett Elliot's Ultimate Herbal Detox is a vigorous cleanse if taken over a 10 day period with dietary changes. It can be taken over a longer period for a gentler detox. For other spring liver cleaning options please consult the HealthPost website. There is a wide range of products available in our Detoxification & Liver catalogue.
Please note, it is important to speak with your general practitioner if you are on medications that may be affected by a liver cleanse and/or supplements.
Happy cleansing and good health!
