“The HealthPost story” |

Natural health is a notoriously faddy market, but HealthPost has never been about the quick fix. We’re here for the long haul, and therefore integrity and dependability are essential. HealthPost was established by Linley Butler in 1988 and has been open for business almost every day since. The business was born out of genuine need. When Linley, a solo mother of three living in a remote community and recovering from ulcerative colitis, couldn’t access the barley grass she needed at an affordable price, she began ordering it in bulk and sharing it out around the community.
As demand steadily grew, Linley employed her friend Di to help, and then Di’s friend Sandy, and for many years HealthPost remained a three-woman operation. With the advent of online shopping the business has moved to another level and already our relatively new premises are bursting at the seams. HealthPost now has a hard-working team of 15 staff. This makes it a significant employer in its home town of Collingwood, a tiny coastal village in Golden Bay, at the northern tip of the South Island of New Zealand. HealthPost continues to be based in Golden Bay, because, basically, we like living here. And we can still get the goods to almost anywhere in NZ the following day. We may be in the back of beyond but we take it as testimony to our convenience and competitive prices that we receive many orders from people in the Auckland CBD.
It would be crazy to live in paradise and not have any time to enjoy it, and HealthPost aspires to a work environment which reflects the company’s values. Work-life balance is a personal thing, and HealthPost has always been big on flexibility. Many of the staff work an unconventional week to accommodate other interests and passions (which in this part of the world usually involves art or the outdoors). A mixed blessing of a mail order business is the ability to work odd hours, and Linley has startled plenty of customers expecting the call-minder over the years by answering the phone at midnight. We work hard, but frankly, it would be hypocritical to sell health while slave-driving ourselves!
The launch of our new e-commerce system and accompanying new website marks a significant milestone in the HealthPost story and we are excited by the opportunities to both expand and refine our service that this move presents. Least this cause alarm for the many loyal customers who regularly express appreciation for the service that we currently provide, we are staying firmly down-to-earth: rest assured, (for better or worse!) you will continue to get a “real person” on the other end of the phone.
HealthPost has always been about balancing profits and principles. We believe in the products that we sell and we are proud to be a part of people taking responsibility for their own health and wellbeing. We demonstrate our commitment to natural health by making a huge range of natural products as accessible as possible, keeping the price down and delivering swiftly and widely. We endeavour to stay abreast of the ever-changing health regulations and campaign for the continued availability of safe and natural solutions in New Zealand and beyond. HealthPost now delivers natural products to Australia, Korea, Taiwan, the UK, China and many other countries. We relish the opportunity to promote NZ health products worldwide, and we are especially proud of the wonderful NZ natural skincare ranges now on offer (Living Nature, Trilogy, Antipodes).

At HealthPost we believe that the wellness of the individual is always connected to the health of the broader community and the natural environment. As a business, we are focusing increasingly on environmental, cultural and ethical sustainability. We recognise that our customers are conscious not only of price but want to make a purchase that they can feel good about on all levels. It is not enough to BE well, we also need to DO well.
Now that we are, financially-speaking, “doing well” it’s time to put our money where our mouth is. We are currently developing planting schemes with the intention of becoming carbon neutral and are pleased to introduce our '$1.00 donation with every web order' gifting programme.
