Diarrhoea Relief

Diarrhoea (alternatively diarrhea in North America) stemming from the Greek dia "through" + rheo "flow" meaning "flowing through" (which is pretty self-explanatory,) is the condition of having three or more loose or liquid bowel movements per day. The most common root cause is gastroenteritis, which is usually caused by a bacterial infection in your stomach or gut.

Diarrhoea (alternatively diarrhea in North America) stemming from the Greek dia "through" + rheo "flow" meaning "flowing through" (which is pretty self-explanatory,) is the condition of having three or more loose or liquid bowel movements per day.

The most common cause is gastroenteritis. Which is caused by (usually) a bacterial infection in your stomach or gut.

Oral rehydration solutions with modest amounts of salts and zinc tablets are the treatment of choice and have been estimated to have saved 50 million children in the developing world, in the past 25 years. In cases where these rehydration solutions are not available, homemade solutions are often used.

The loss of fluids through diarrhoea can cause dehydration and electrolyte disturbances such as potassium deficiency or other salt imbalances.

There are natural health remedies available to help with diarrhoea. Primarily we need to get rid of the harmful bacteria (causing gastroenteritis) in your stomach - you could benefit from taking supplements containing ‘friendly bacteria’ (e.g. primadophilus reuteri) which help outcompete the harmful bacteria causing the diarrhoea.

NZ native herb Koromiko (Hebe stricta) is a specific herbal diarrhoea remedy that works quickly and effectively to treat diarrhoea and as a general bowel detox. During the Second World War, NZ troops suffering from diarrhoea and dysentery in overseas postings were sent Koromiko leaves which were chewed raw or drunk as an infusion.

  • Happy to re order this one

I have been using probiotics for a few years and have tried a lot of different ones. With these ones I have had less bloating and IBS symptoms. I have better sleep, a better immune system and dont get thrush anymore which I suffered from regularly. If I eat a lot of sugar I take two at night instead of one. I will be re-ordering these and recommending them to friends.

I've had IBS for years, and generally feel like my whole tummy area is tense all the time. After taking this for a few days I felt by whole gut relax. It does make constipation worse, so I drink more and take magnesium to help with that. The main thing IBX has done for me is hugely reduce the spasms.
