Dandruff Info

“Confession is good for the soul only in the sense that a tweed coat is good for dandruff - it is a palliative rather than a remedy”

Peter DeVries

Dandruff is the shedding of dead skin cells from the scalp. Dandruff should not be confused with a simple dry scalp.

As skin cells die a small amount of flaking is normal. Some people, however, experience an unusually large amount of flaking either chronically or as a result of certain triggers, which can also be accompanied by redness and irritation.

Dandruff is a common disorder of the scalp. After puberty, nearly half of the population will experience some form of it. It often causes itching. Cells in the scalp known as keratinocytes play a role in the expression and generation of immunological reactions during the formation of dandruff. The severity of dandruff fluctuates with seasons - it often gets worsen during the winter season. Most cases of dandruff can be treated with specialised shampoos. Unfortunately, there is no true cure.

There are natural health remedies that may benefit people with dandruff. Certain health products are specially designed to nourish the scalp skin and hair to reduce breakage and promote health. There are other natural health remedies available for this condition. Both coconut and Argan oil have been known to promote hair and scalp health. Rubbing olive oil into the scalp also appears to help alleviate the dandruff.

Product Reviews

  • Nice but not for me

    star

Lovely facial oil which is light, easily absorbed, and doesn't cause makeup slide. It did make me breakout horribly though - but I have super sensitive, combination, rosacea prone skin which is impossible to please (evening primrose oil is still my favorite oil). Nice on hair though - I use a few drops as a treatment and wash out the morning after.

  • A great all round cider vinega

    star

Slightly on the milder side and an excellent all rounder for cider vinegar use especially when adding to water to drink.

  • This is the real stuff!

    star

Just put a teaspoon of this in your mouth straight from the jar and you'll know immediately this is the real thing.

Works great for cooking as well and doesn't have any unpleasant odours.
