Resveratrol
Resveratrol is a natural plant derived substance known as polyphenols - a diet high in fruit and vegetables is known to enhance health due to the health enhancing properties of polyphenols. Resveratrol and the other polyphenols in red wine are thought to account for the “French Paradox” whereby the French have lower rates of cardiovascular disease than other industrialised countries. Resveratrol polyphenol belongs to the group of compounds known as a phytoalexins, these are chemicals are produced by plants to protect them from infection from pathogens
The highest known source of Resveratrol is the plant Polygonum cuspidatum, Japanese Knotweed, which has traditional uses in TCM to invigorate the blood, reduce pain and relieve coughs.
