Chelated minerals are bound to amino acids (units of protein) by strong chemical bonds that increase bioavailability and absorption of that mineral. Chelation is a natural process that occurs in many foods high in mineral content and increases the absorption of minerals by between 3 and 10 times.

Helpful for: muscle cramps, menstrual cramps, eye twitching, tremor, and spasms; soft tissue and joint calcification causing stiffness and spur formation; nervousness, restlessness, irritability, insomnia, depression; osteoporosis - magnesium deficiency decreases the blood levels of vitamin D, essential for stimulating the absorption of calcium from the digestive tract; diabetes - magnesium levels are significantly lowered in diabetes, poorly controlled diabetes may be improved with magnesium; and high blood pressure - a deficiency of magnesium may be a contributing factor to high blood pressure; heart palpitations and irregular heart beat may be improved with magnesium.

Also helpful for: asthma - magnesium reduces the spasm of airways; pre-menstrual tension symptoms; helps to protect against kidney stones - magnesium increases the solubility of calcium and reduces stone formation; low magnesium levels may cause muscle weakness; excess alcohol, coffee, tea, refined white flours and foods, high fat and sugar intake may reduce magnesium levels.

My husband is confined to a wheelchair with MS. He was having a lot of cramping in his legs especially at night. Taking the magnesium has relieved it by about 90% which means we both get a good nights sleep.
