Healtheries Chelated Selenium for antioxidant protection, is chelated for superior absorption. Chelated minerals are the most bioavailable (easily absorbed) minerals. They are bound to amino acids (units of protein) by strong covalent bonds similar to those naturally found in foods such as calcium in milk and iron in red meats.

In the process of chelation the mineral is transferred from its inorganic state to an organic state, increasing the absorption of that mineral by between three to ten times.

Helpful for: low immunity; heavy metal contamination; rheumatoid and osteo - arthritis; heart disease, high cholesterol levels; skin health and healing - wounds, dermatitis; muscle health - to improve weakness and deterioration; mental balance and calmness; low thyroid function.

SELENIUM IS NECESSARY FOR:

  • Production of the antioxidant enzyme glutathione peroxidase, which protects against free radical damage.
  • Glutathione peroxidase is important in reducing inflammation.
  • Inhibits lipid peroxidation (in combination with Vitamin E) and reducing potential for heart disease.
  • Enhances the antioxidant effect of vitamin E.
  • To assist in the detoxification of chemicals - cadmium, arsenic, silver, mercury and copper toxicity.
  • Preserving tissue elasticity and health.
  • Male reproductive system (semen has a naturally high concentration of selenium).

DEFICIENCY SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF SELENIUM:

  • Growth impairment
  • Heart disease
  • Muscle degeneration
  • Premature ageing
  • Sterility in males
  • Possible increased risk of some cancers

FOOD SOURCES OF SELENIUM:

  • Oysters, tuna, mackerel, fish, liver, kidney, onions, garlic, kelp, human breast milk.
  • New Zealand soils are known to be deficient in selenium. Grains, fruits and vegetables grown in New Zealand contain only low levels of this mineral.
