Clinical Applications:

T J Clark’s Advanced Amino Acid Formula may be beneficial in the prevention and treatment of:

  • Acetaminophen poisoning, AIDS, ageing, cancer therapy, chronic bronchitis, ethanol toxicity, heavy metal poisoning, hepatitis B, infertility, lung fibrosis, metastasis, motor neuron disease, Sjorgren’s syndrome, COPD, oxidation and mucous production through smoking and viral myocarditis.
  • Hair and skin, insulin production, and increased oxidation states, depressed mood function, thyroid problems, wound healing, chronic fatigue, infertility, BPH, Herpes Simplex 1 and surgery.
  • GI repair and detoxification, immune support, starvation, liver disorders and heart disease.

Pharmacology and Research of Active Ingredients:

  • L-Glutaminemay have immunomodulatory, anticatabolic/anabolic and gastrointestinal mucosal-protective actions. It may also have antioxidant activity. Glutamine serves as an important vehicle for nitrogen transport and can donate its nitrogen atoms as an amide to form nicotinamide from niacin. Glutamine is important for the detoxification of the GI mucosal and has been shown to prevent mucosal atrophy and bacterial translocation resulting from various insults, including methotrexate and radiation injury.
  • L-Argininerequirements exceed the body’s capacity to synthesise it. Among arginine’s varied properties is its ability to stimulate the release of growth hormone and prolactin, as well as the pancreatic secretion of insulin and glucagon. Arginine functions as a precursor to nitric oxide, a key in processes such as neurotransmission, control of platelet aggregation and adhesion, blood pressure regulation, immune system cytotoxicity, and relaxation of intestinal smooth muscle. Administration of arginine results in an increase creatine formation, collagen deposition, gastrin secretion, enhance T-lymphocyte response, increase sperm count, decrease in ammonia concentration, atherosclerosis, platelet clumping and clot formation. Useful for chronic fatigue, especially muscular fatigue with myalgia.
  • L-Alaninecan be synthesised by transamination from pyruvic acid and glutamic acid. Alanine serves as a key intermediate in the alanine-glucose cycle and is rich in the connective tissue proteins collagen and elastin. Alanine in combination with methionine reduces the symptoms of hangover including headache, stomach discomfort and nausea. Alanine may be therapeutically valuable in treating benign prostate hypertrophy.
  • L-Aspartic acid serves as a valuable precursor to asparagine, purines, and pyrimidines. Aspartic acid has been shown to inhibit the formation of calcium stones, treating opiate addiction, benefit patients with chronic hepatitis and in the therapy of hyperammonaemia. A combination of arginine and aspartic acid has been used to treat a number of conditions including postpartum depression, hyperammonaemia, wound healing, and to stimulate growth hormone release. Aspartic acid is a valuable mineral chelation agent.
  • NACprovides bioavailable cysteine, a essential component in methionine metabolism, disulfide linkages and in between protein chains. NAC reacts to form coenzyme A, serves as a precursor to taurine, glutathione, and in the immune system augments the activation of cytotoxic T cells, T cell proliferation in response to mitogens and the differentiation of T and B lymphocytes.
  • Glutathioneis the principal intracellular non protein thiol and plays a major role in the maintenance of the intracellular redox state. It may be thought of as an intracellular redox buffer. Glutathione is a nucleophilic scavenger and an electron donor via the sulfhydryl group of its business residue, cysteine. Its reducing ability maintains molecules such as ascorbate and proteins in their reduced state. Glutathione is also the cofactor for the selenium-containing glutathione peroxidases (see Selenium), which are major antioxidant enzymes. L-Glutathione is essential for the detoxification and excretion of most xenobiotics and metabolically produced oxidising agents. Glutathione has also been shown to enhance insulin secretion in elderly subjects with impaired glucose tolerance while GSH deficiencies have been documented in a number of pulmonary diseases, including ARDS, COPD, pulmonary disease, pulmonary fibrosis and neonatal lung damage.
  • L-Leucineis a branched chain amino acid required for protein synthesis and is used as an energy yielding substrate. Derivatives of leucine can be used for the synthesis of mevalonic acid which, in turn, is a precursor of steroids such as cholesterol, steroid hormones and bile salts. Leucine is anti-catabolic and enhances the uptake of precursor amino acids tryptophan, tyrosine and phenylalanine into the nervous system.
  • L-Lysine assists the transfer of amino groups by forming the linkage between transaminase enzymes and pyridoxal phosphate. Lysine is an essential amino acid, impacting on bone health by enhancing intestinal calcium absorption and improving renal conservation of the absorbed calcium. Lysine supplementation appears to be essential for carnitine synthesis, utilisation of fatty acids for energy and to enhance thymus growth and improve immune system parameters. Lysine administration may decrease plasma cholesterol and triglycerides in addition to amplifying growth hormone release.
  • L-Methionine is a crucial amino acid which brings methyl groups and sulfur to the body. Methionine facilitates the formation of body tissues, metabolism of carbohydrates, lipids, and amino acids and antioxidant defence systems. Methionine metabolism is subject to many impairments, resulting in a variety of disorders, including cardiovascular disease, neural tube defects, osteoporosis, and neuropsychiatric disorders.

  • L-Phenylalanineis a precursor of the neurotransmitters dopamine and noradrenalin. Decreased levels of brain noradrenalin have been found in depressive states associated with fatigue and an increase in noradrenalin levels results in a sense of reward and wellbeing.

  • L-Tyrosine supports the synthesis of adrenal catecholamine, norepinephrine (NE) influencing mood and behaviour. Pre treatment with supplemental tyrosine appears to prevent the behavioural depression and hypothalamic NE depletion observed following an acute stress and to suppress the rise in plasma cortisol. Tyrosine’s impact on mood may be partly related to the thyroid hormones thyroxine and triiodothyronine.

  • Vitamin Cinfluences the concentration of the cyclic nucleotides c-AMP and c-GMP, is involved in hormone production (adrenalin and serotonin), and required for the detoxification of toxic chemicals.
  • Phytogenic Mineral Catalyst– Our Polyfloramin™extracts contain up to 72 trace elements for enhanced bioavailability, assimilation and synergy of the active ingredients contained in Advanced Amino Acid Formula.
