Histidine is found in most animal and vegetable proteins and in particular pork, poultry, cheese and wheat germ. It is an essential amino acid for children as it is needed for growth and, because it is essential, it needs to come from dietary sources.
Histidine is involved in the production of red and white blood cells. It is present in haemoglobin (the iron-containing oxygen-carrying protein in blood) so is necessary for haemoglobin formation. Histidine may have a role in the treatment of anaemia which results from a lack of serum iron and iron stores.
Histidine is metabolised to histamine which is involved in smooth muscle function and allergic reactions. Histamine is released as an immune response so has been known to be used when allergies occur.
Histidine also appears to be required by the auditory nerve for good function and helps maintain the myelin sheaths which insulate nerves. It may also chelate (bind) metals. Chelated to minerals in the body such as zinc and copper, histidine may help improve their absorption.
Each Tablet Contains:
L-Histidine 500mg
Adults take 1-3 tablets daily, 20 minutes before food, or as professionally prescribed.
Not to be taken by pregnant or lactating women.

I take one tablet a day during the allergy season and find it definitely helps with keeping allergic responses (hay fever etc.) under control.
