Glucosamine Info

Glucosamine is a natural constituent of healthy cartilage and synovial fluid in the joints of the body. It is derived from glucose and the amino acid glutamine, and as we age we tend to produce less. Our bodies use glucosamine to build and repair cartilage, tendons, ligaments, synovial fluid and other tissues.

Glucosamine Benefits

We need glucosamine primarily for the healthy structure, strength and shock absorbing functions of our joints. Although glucosamine is produced by our bodies, our capacity to do this diminishes with age.

Glucosamine provides the raw material for our bodies to maintain and repair the components critical for healthy joint mobility and function. It is a beneficial therapeutic supplement in osteoarthritis, a degenerative disease of the joints of the body.

Glucosamine Side Effects

Glucosamine sulphate is in a different category to sulphur drugs and sulphate-containing foods, and will not cause a reaction in people with sulphate allergies. Because glucosamine is usually sourced from shellfish shells, people with shellfish allergies should naturally avoid these products. A vegetarian supplement is available (manufactured using no animal product). People with unstable blood sugar conditions are advised to consult a health practitioner before taking a glucosamine supplement.

Product Reviews

  • Love This Stuff!

My boy has been on 'human' glucosamine for the past 5 years, still has a bad limp on occasions - and always after a good bunny chase or trip to the beach. He has been on the Glucosamine for dogs for 6 weeks, had both bunny chases and run on the beach and has no limped at all since the very first week he began taking the product. Very happy with it - just wish the container lasted longer, he is 70kg and has 1 tsp per day which has lasted about 5-6 weeks.

  • New old boxer

We have two boxers, one 7 and one we got as a rescue - we were told she was 'around 9' then after she came home with us we were told she was 'more like 11'. Her age didn't matter to us and she would have come home either way but 11 is pretty old for a boxer. Before Glucosamine, she would come to the beach and what little walking she would do was very slow.
About two weeks after taking BioBalance Glucosamine (and BioBalance MSM) she was a new dog. I have photos of her jumping about 3 foot in the air to grab a ball. Both dogs have been on these products for over two years now and there is no way i would stop giving it to them.

If you have an older dog that looks a bit stiff and sore then i would definitely suggest you give these two products a go

  • A Real Difference!

I love this product! I have noticed a real difference using this product, as at one stage I was using voltaren on a daily basis and now I probably only need 1 or 2 per month. Eases stiff, sore joints - I would definitely recommend it!
