While nutritionists may argue over the percentage of our diets that should comprise protein, most will agree that a good proportion of the population does not consume enough to maintain good health. The proteins we eat are broken down into amino acids that are then reassembled into other proteins for use throughout the body – they are critical for the functioning of our cells, as well as building strong muscles and bones.
Good food sources include most animal products including eggs and meat, although there are some good plant sources too – quinoa, beans, broccoli, and nuts in particular. However, many people don’t eat enough to stay well. For that reason, protein supplements have become increasingly popular in recent years, particularly at times of increased requirement such as pregnancy and exercise – and bars are one of the easiest and quickest ways to boost your daily intake when needed.
