What is Vitamin B6?

Vitamin B6 is also known as pyridoxine, and is thought to be involved in more body processes than any other vitamin or mineral.  Among these are serotonin and dopamine production, protein metabolism for energy production, red blood cell formation, promoting heart health, maintaining hormonal balance and healthy functioning of the immune and nervous systems.  Its role in cell multiplication gives vitamin B6 a vital role in pregnancy.

Vitamin B6 Benefits

Consider supplementing vitamin B6 in conjunction with a B Complex for premenstrual support, morning sickness, and reducing symptoms of estrogen excess in the body.

Research has revealed vitamin B6 deficiency as a contributing factor in both kidney stones and carpel tunnel syndrome.  Also, taking a Vitamin B6 supplement can counteract the reaction to the food additive monosodium glutamate (MSG) experienced by some people.

The vital role of vitamin B6 in production of the 'feel good' neurotransmitters means a deficiency can cause despondency, lack of enjoyment in life, stress and anxiety. This is an important vitamin for maintaining balanced emotions and mood.

Vitamin B6 Side Effects and Contraindications

  • Safe when taken as directed.

  • Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) should always be taken in conjunction with a B complex supplement, as all the B group vitamins need to be present in the correct ratio for optimal effect.
