ŌKU’s mission is to help people discover the amazing properties held within New Zealand’s ngahere (forests). Founded by Scott and Helen, the brand celebrates native plants and traditional knowledge, creating 100% organic, wild-harvested herbal teas, elixirs and balms. Each formula highlights plants like kawakawa, alongside other native and traditional herbs, designed to offer an authentic experience of Aotearoa’s rich botanical heritage.
Sustainability & guardianship
Sustainability is central to ŌKU’s kaupapa. Every stage of production is approached with care, from ethical harvesting practices to plastic-free packaging and eco-conscious business operations. Guided by the principle of kaitiakitanga, ŌKU strives to be a responsible guardian of the whenua (land) and Papatūānuku (mother earth), continually reducing their carbon footprint while honouring traditional plant practices.
Award-winning commitment to quality
ŌKU’s dedication to excellence has been recognised across New Zealand. In 2022, the founders were named Māori Businesswoman of the Year in Sales and Marketing, and their Kawakawa and Arnica Balm won The Best of Natural Awards in the Hair and Body Healing Balm category. These accolades reflect ŌKU’s focus on quality, care and respect for Aotearoa’s botanical treasures.
