If you are thinking about trying for a baby, and are not sure where to start, read on to see our tips for a healthy conception. The ideal scenario is to prepare for at least 3 months, before trying to conceive. This includes taking a prenatal supplement for the all-important folic acid and iodine required for a healthy conception as well as working on stress management and hormonal balance.

Conception Support

There are many things that you can do to support pre-conception and conception, we recommend focusing on some of the basics of health and wellbeing and incorporating a prenatal supplement along with Women’s Fertility supplements. What are the basics?

  • Fill your plate with a wide variety of colourful vegetables, and make sure you are getting plenty of fibre, and protein from nuts, seeds, and pulses.
  • Stay hydrated, this helps keep cervical mucous at a healthy fluid consistency.
  • Move your body every day to support healthy stress management which influences your fertility.
  • Consider where your stress levels sit, for extra support check out 6 ways to stay balanced and look after yourself

Avoid plastics with food prep and stop using personal care products with parabens, as these can impact on your hormones and fertility. For more information read Say ‘No’ to Parabens.

Female Fertility

Supporting your fertility can start well before you’re planning to try and conceive. Whether you’ve just come off the birth control pill, or are ready now, here are some tips to keep in mind as you embark on this exciting new phase of life:

  • Are you ovulating? Track your menstrual cycle and ovulation. See our article Ovulation - More Than Just Conception.
  • Are you timing intercourse correctly? Not everyone ovulates on the textbook day 14, so tracking your cycle can be an important part of your fertility journey.
  • Are you using fertility friendly lubricants? Some lubricants can impair sperm so that they’re unable to swim to their destination.

It’s always a good idea to see your GP or trusted health professional for some prenatal tests to check that everything is in good order. Don’t forget to support the health of your other half and sperm health too – check out range of Men’s Fertility supplements and herbal extracts for men’s libido.
