Doctor’s Best Natto-Serra is a combination of two well-researched, natural proteolytic enzymes; nattokinase and serrapeptase.
Nattokinase is derived from “natto”, a traditional Japanese meal obtained from fermented soybeans. Natto naturally contains vitamin K, however Doctor’s Best nattokinase has had the vitamin K removed.
Nattokinase is a fibrinolytic enzyme, (breaks down fibrin). Excess fibrin has been shown to contribute to cardiovascular problems. Nattokinase supports balanced plasma levels of proteins that affect blood flow. The net effect is support for healthy circulation and blood flow. These effects have been demonstrated in studies. Healthy circulatory function is essential for supporting cardiovascular and heart wellness. Nattokinase supports healthy blood flow and overall health for the heart, brain and muscles and also provides vital oxygen to the organs.
Serrapeptase is a proteolytic enzyme that has shown to be effective in supporting healthy circulation and overall cardiovascular health, respiratory health and tissue repair. In addition, it supports joint comfort, and immune function. Serrapeptase comes from the Serratia bacteria species strain E15 and has been studied for over 40 years. It was originally discovered in the Japanese silkworm which uses its serrapeptase enzymes to break down its cocoon walls. Serrapeptase supports healthy sinus and airway function, as well as a healthy immune response. It supports the breakdown of hard particles made of protein.
As part of healthy physiology, mucus is the first line of defence in the nose and lungs. It traps and filters inhaled dust, pollutants and other potentially damaging agents. When your body produces excess mucus, it can make your sinus area feel ‘stuffed up’. Proteolytic enzymes such as serrapeptase can support the breakdown of inappropriate protein complexes in the mucus. This supports a favourable viscosity of nasal and bronchial mucus which can support airway clearance and nasal airway comfort.
As serrapeptase can be destroyed by stomach acid, Natto-Serra uses Serrateric™, a special coating that protects the enzyme until it reaches the intestines and therefore optimizes absorption.
