Do lots of research before buying if first time user

I bought the size XS cup being a sporty, petite (5ft 2"), middle-aged woman, no kids - user of mini tampons. My advice before buying would be to do a LOT of research online beforehand if you're new to using a menstrual cup. I didn't find it hard to fit or retrieve it, the instructions are easy to follow, but the XS size was too big for me. I first had to cut the 'stem' so it was shorter - no probs there, but despite numerous attempts at different angles, etc.. I could 'feel' the cup all the time, which after an hour or so, became unbearable. Subsequent research told me that there are other brands that are softer/smaller and perhaps better for petite users. I understand that everyone is different, I just should have done my homework more thoroughly. Hope this helps :)
