Urban Hippie Umami Salt (Shio-Koji) is a live food that in rich in enzymes and brings out the UMAMI in foods. Umami is the fifth primary taste after sweet, sour, salty and bitter.

It can be used in place of salt in any dish or as an ingredient in sauces. The saltiness is mild and sweet.

This product is a naturally fermented food that been processed to ensure the healthy cultures remain active. This means they can occasionally blow their lid when opened or leak. But don’t worry it’s still fine to eat – it’s actually a good sign the cultures are active and have continued to do their job of fermenting.

Using Umami Salt (Shio-Koji) instead of regular salt can lower the overall salt content in your food as small amounts impart a rich savory flavor and makes any dish delicious. It is excellent to use when marinating fish or meat.
