Caring for te Moana: Our top picks for World Oceans Day

At HealthPost, we're proud to call Mohua Golden Bay home—a small coastal community where the sea is part of daily life. With the ocean on our doorstep, it's more than a backdrop—it's a taonga (treasure) we’re deeply connected to, and one we’re committed to protecting.

Through the HealthPost Nature Trust, we’re continually expanding our coastal conservation efforts, including marine mammal rescue and blue carbon research. Our longstanding care for marine environments is also reflected in our carefully vetted product range.

Our Marine Sustainability Policy ensures that all marine-derived products we offer are independently certified as sustainably sourced. In 2024, we made the decision to remove krill oil from our range due to growing concerns about its impact on the Southern Ocean ecosystem. This is part of our ongoing work to evolve our standards and expand our conservation initiatives to better care for our oceans and coastal environments.

We also know that plastic pollution is one of the biggest threats facing our oceans. While no product is entirely impact-free, we’ve selected these featured products for their ocean-friendly packaging and formulas—thoughtful choices that support your wellbeing while helping to protect te moana.

This mixed pack includes smoothie straws (a hit with my kids) and classic bent straws (my go-to). Plastic-free, even down to the natural-fibre cleaning brush, they’re dishwasher safe and built to last. A small switch, with big ripple effects.

Lifestream – Vegan Omega-3

Algae-sourced and fish-free, this high-potency DHA + EPA supplement is my favourite way to meet omega needs—without impacting marine species. It's also free of the heavy metals that can be an issue in fish oils. Lifestream uses renewable sugarcane-based packaging, which is kerbside recyclable here in Aotearoa. Eco by Sonya – Glory Veil SPF 50+

This new sunscreen is vegan, zinc-based, and reef friendly. Anyone who’s swum in a busy bay knows the sight (and smell) of chemical sunscreen slick on the water—something I’d rather avoid. While there’s no universally accepted ‘reef-safe’ certification yet, I feel confident using this gentle, ocean-safe sunscreen for myself and my kids. Bonus: the tube is made from post-consumer recycled plastic.
