Dandelion

Perceived as a weed by many, this hardy little plant provides powerful support for our normal detoxification processes.

Benefits & Uses

Dandelion has been used as food and as a traditional medicinal remedy for many years around the world, including in Europe, America, China and Arabia. All parts of the plant can be utilized, fresh or dried, either in capsules or tablets or as herbal extracts. As a food, dandelion can be used to make tea, enjoyed as a coffee substitute, with the leafy greens added to salads, or blended to make sauces or soups.

A powerful detoxification helper and liver tonic, Dandelion can be used to support normal liver function, bile secretion, and healthy kidney function. Often referred to as a ‘blood tonic’, Dandelion helps to eliminate waste products from the body while also supporting nutrient delivery to tissues. While both parts of the plant (leaves and roots) can be used for this, the leaves have a stronger effect for kidney support and are known to have a diuretic action (increases urinary output). This also helps to regulate fluid distribution within the body and can be supportive when there is fluid retention and swelling.

Dandelion also helps to provide digestive support, especially for bowel health and regularity. Supporting liver and bile production not only helps to metabolise fats that we ingest but has a regulating action on bowel movement as well. And drinking a few cups of dandelion tea would also help to get some fluid into the body which helps to keep things moving too!
