D-mannose
Benefits & Uses
D-mannose works to support the healthy physical defence mechanism of the urinary tract and bladder. D-Mannose discourages potentially harmful bacteria from sticking to the epithelial cells that line the bladder and urinary tract walls. By binding to bacteria, the bacteria remain free in the urine and are eliminated upon urination. The body then washes them away, so they can be excreted to support urinary tract health. Preventing colonisation of bacteria on human mucosal tissues is now recognised as an important step in maintaining healthy function of the urinary system.
D-mannose is shown to help support against the Escherichia coli bacteria, commonly referred to as E. Coli. D-mannose can affect the fimbriae of these bacteria, which are small hair like projections that allow the bacteria to latch on and cling to body tissues. D-mannose can be taken for immediate and long-term support.
Whilst it is classed as a naturally occurring sugar, D-Mannose is not metabolized or used by the body to produce energy, so is suitable for use with those who have blood sugar imbalances. It passes through the body and is excreted in urine via the urinary tract and bladder, where it delivers its supportive effect. Due to that fact that it is pleasant tasting, it is often used in powdered form.
Please note that untreated urinary tract infections may lead to more significant complications. If pain or irritation persists for more than 48 hours, consult your healthcare professional. The presence of blood in the urine warrants immediate medical attention.
