Oyster

They are popular to maintain balanced, healthy sex hormone levels and support male sexual vitality and performance.

Oysters are a ‘bivalve’ mollusc, which means they are enclosed inside two shells that are connected by a hinge. They live in marine or brackish habitats, and feed on suspended plankton and particles, drawing in water over their gills at a rate of up to 4 – 5 litres an hour. Oyster supplements are derived from the soft bodied mollusc itself or the powdered oyster shell.

Benefits & Uses

Nutrition:

Oysters are rich in nutrients including copper, calcium, selenium, vitamin A and vitamin B12. They are also fantastic sources of zinc, omega 3 fatty acids and amino acids including D-aspartic acid and N-methyl-D-aspartate.

Zinc:

Zinc supports balanced sex hormone levels in both women and men. Adequate levels of zinc are important to maintain healthy sperm production in men. Zinc also supports healthy immune function and wound healing.

Omega-3 fatty acids:

Omega-3 fatty acids help the body to balance prostaglandin pathways to maintain healthy body tissues, including joints. Omega 3 also supports cardiovascular health and normal cholesterol levels by maintaining a balance between HDL and LDL lipids in the blood.

Unique amino acids:

Along with other amino acids- studies have shown that oysters contain two amino acids, D-aspartic acid (D-Asp) and N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA). These unique amino acids support healthy production of testosterone and progesterone, which are chemical messengers inside the body that influence sexual characteristics, behaviours, function and performance.

Please note it is important to avoid taking supplements that contain oyster if you have a known shellfish allergy.
