Many of us know and love Tulsi for its incredible health benefits, and rich cultural heritage. But how do we get the very best out of our cup of Tulsi tea?

To make the perfect cup, I start with quality ingredients - I’m talking certified organic, premium quality, therapeutic grade herbs that have been sourced ethically. Naturally, I reach for the ORGANIC INDIA range of Tulsi or Holy Basil teas, and then I get that kettle filled with pure, filtered water, and put it on to boil.

There are two very important points to remember when brewing a cup of Tulsi:

  1. Pure, filtered water is as essential as high quality organic herbs. It isn’t just better for your body, it also makes the best tasting cup of tea!
  2. Boiling water is required to release the herbal compounds from the dry leaf.

Tulsi should brew in a vessel with a lid on it – either a teapot, a keep cup, a mug with lid, or even a cup with a saucer placed over the top. This is because the aromatic essential oil component of Tulsi, eugenol, contains many immune supporting compounds that are beneficial for the respiratory system, and will escape if the tea isn’t covered while it steeps.

A minimum 5-minute steep time is recommended (and longer for the wellness range of Tulsi teas – so refer to the box for specific directions). If I am using a teabag, I don’t actually take it out (although it can be removed after 5 minutes if you prefer). A fine strainer is required if using loose leaf Tulsi since the Tulsi leaf herb is quite fine. I usually leave my tea covered until it reaches a drinkable temperature.

The compounding effect of drinking high quality organic herbal tea regularly (i.e. daily) is not to be underestimated. This can become a powerful self-care ritual, especially if it is repeated several times each day. With a number of Tulsi tea blends and flavours to choose from, you’ll have no problem finding that perfect morning cuppa.
