What does it mean when a company is B Corp?

B Corp businesses are a force for good. They strive globally for a better economic system where businesses can benefit people, communities, and the planet. They choose long-term investments over quick wins and measure their success on the positive impact they create. Now that’s a commitment we can get behind.

Business making profit solely for its shareholders – sound familiar? Not here. B Corps recognise that’s not enough - and go beyond.

Certified B Corp businesses are verified by  B Lab – a rigorous standard with independent assessors who measure how businesses are making a meaningful impact for people and planet - beyond their shareholders. As part of our journey to becoming a B Corp, we changed our founding document (our constitution) to reflect that every decision we make legally considers a wider range of stakeholders – including you - our customers, and our team, suppliers, community, and the environment. We’ve also legally embedded our purpose in our constitution: to have a lasting positive impact on people and planet. To protect our founding vision today – and into the future.

Becoming a B Corp is a big responsibility, and one we're proud to take seriously.

As the largest employer in a small community, we’re naturally connected to the way our decisions have a broad impact and we’ve long been holistic in our decision-making. We’re delighted to be able to join a community of businesses worldwide that share the desire to do things better!

You’re in good company with this global community of 6000+ trailblazing ethical businesses, from the likes of Patagonia in the US to All Birds here in Aotearoa.

You’ll also find a growing number of wonderful  B Corp brands in our range including EthiqueWeledaBioBalanceOrganic India and Chia Sisters, to name a few.

Why B Corp?

B Corp is the most comprehensive ethical certification currently available to businesses. The process took us 15 months to complete and required answering 300 questions across our business.

To be a B Corp, you can’t be shining in only one area and shouting about it – the analysis and verification is 360 degrees, so you must be doing things better across the board. B Corp analysts dig into numerous areas, from diversity around the board table, to customer and team wellbeing, transparency in supply chain, and environmental responsibility.

How you can make conscious choices with B Corp

Our journey to becoming a B Corp

Our journey to becoming B Corp certified

This was a BIG piece of work and as a retailer of 350+ wellbeing brands, the process took us more than one year to complete. We already had robust processes in place for gathering transparent information on ingredients, impacts and business practices from our suppliers and partners, which was a big head start.

Our process was also well-supported by our existing certifications including Zero Carbon.

We answered hundreds of questions about our business across five key areas of impact:

  • governance
  • community
  • workers
  • customers
  • environment

We mindfully reflected along the way – taking opportunities to optimise our own processes, policies, and practices to incorporate B Corp best-practice.

And we’re just getting started. To maintain our certification and meet the evolving high standards we must continue to ‘raise the bar’ and follow our roadmap for continuous improvement. Our B Corp recertification in 2026 will be a great opportunity to measure our progress.

Our overall B impact score

Our overall B Impact Score is a solid 86.8.

80 qualifies for B Corp Certification. The median score for ordinary businesses who complete the assessment is currently 50.9.

Our impact score serves as an important framework for us going forward and allows us to sense check whether we’re living up to our values – and yours.

We love that B Corp provides a transparent framework to celebrate businesses achievements as well as plenty of tools for continuous improvement as part of an inspiring community striving for change.

Looking ahead – what’s next on our sustainability journey

Becoming B Corp certified is another important milestone on our sustainability journey - and we’re not stopping here.

We’re determined to keep leading the way as an ethical wellness retailer in Aotearoa - and deliver on our vision to have a positive, lasting impact on the wellbeing of people and planet.

With your support, we’re taking action on:

  • Regenerating nature through the HealthPost Nature Trust, where a 3-hectare predator-proof ecosanctuary has been established for threatened flora and fauna to thrive. Translocations of threatened seabirds are in process.
  • Offsetting carbon emissions through New Zealand native forests, including HealthPost’s 10.6 hectare block of regenerating indigenous carbon forest. With our Zero Carbon status and robust footprint measurement in place, we are transitioning to carbon reduction measures.
  • Responsibly sourced products: maintaining NZ’s most rigorous independent product standards within our industry for quality, ethical integrity, and transparency requires us to continue to evolve our range and standards in an ethically aligned way.
  • Continuous improvement of business processes and practices via the B Corp tools, resources and community.
  • Caring for community: As an ethical employer, we’ll continue to raise the bar for our team and give back to our small rural community.

Thank you for helping make a healthy difference.
