  • Sage (Salvia officinalis): supporting sudden temperature changes like hot flashes and night sweats.
  • DIM (Diindolylmethane): is plant extract that supports estrogen metabolism to support the most common menopause symptoms.
  • Adaptogens (e.g., Rhodiola, Ashwagandha): are a group of herbs that offer holistic support for stress and energy while also supporting happy mood and focus.
  • Calcium and vitamin D: are particularly important nutrients during menopause, as lower estrogen levels naturally lead to lower bone density.
Calcium supports bone density and strength while Vitamin D supports immune health and aids calcium absorption. Together, they ensure healthy, resilient bones.

Is there a natural equivalent to HRT (hormone replacement therapy)?

This is an interesting question. There isn’t an equivalent natural product that replicates traditional hormonal patches and hormonal replacement therapy (HRT). Sorry to say.

HRT delivers a specific dose of a targeted synthetic hormone to top up the natural decreasing production linked to menopause.

Natural herbal supplements instead, offer a variety of natural plant compounds working synergistically to support the body ease into the menopausal hormonal changes. By supporting estrogen balance and addressing specific menopause symptoms. They’ve been used for hundreds (and sometimes thousands) of years, in traditional Native American Practice, traditional Chinese practice, Ayurvedic, and traditional Western herbal practice, with excellent anecdotal evidence as well as scientific research.

Can HealthPost’s menopause products be taken alongside HRT (hormone replacement therapy) or other menopause medication?

While undergoing hormonal replacement therapy (HRT), or if using any kind of hormonal modulating drug (e.g. hormonal birth control), caution should be taken when considering supplementation that contain herbs – and always be sure to consult your healthcare provider first.

We don’t recommend combining hormonal-modulating medications with menopause herbs and plant extracts Natural supplements containing vitamins and minerals (such as calcium, vitamin D and magnesium) are a great option and are suitable to take alongside HRT Not sure about the best approach for you? How do I know which stage of perimenopause or menopause I am in?

Regular menstrual cycles are usually a good indicator for hormonal balance. Menstrual irregularities and changeable mood are common as the first symptoms women experience when entering perimenopause. The best tip? Start listening to cues from your body. Perimenopause can start in your early 40s. In this time, natural perimenopause supplements and holistic support can be beneficial to accompany a smoother transition to menopause.

Do you have any other recommendation for products I can take to support menopause holistically?

These supplements align with the holistic approach to health and wellness by supporting women navigate the transitional phase with comfort and ease.

  • Evening Primrose Oil (Oenothera biennis), contains gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), an omega-6 fatty acid to support hormone balance and a healthy glow for your skin. Especially skin hydration and plumpness.
  • Collagen is another supplement that can easily be integrated in a day-to-day routine. It supports skin health, radiance and plumpness as well as healthy joints. There’s good research to support its use too.

Naturopath’s top pick: Evening Primrose Oil Efamol

“Love it! Can notice changes after a few weeks...healthier hair and longer nails. Will definitely purchase again.” - Natarsha, age 45-54 ★★★★★

What would you say to someone currently struggling with menopause?

Firstly, I’d say – you’re not alone. Keep in mind that it’s a natural transition and there are so many ways to support an easy menopause journey - naturally. Embrace your wise-woman energy and take advantage of your network of women. Like they say – empowered women empower women. Here are some tips that other menopause travelers have found helpful.

3 tips to support you through the journey:

  1. Share your experience. You might be surprised by how opening up the conversation allows yourself and so many other women to feel understood and supported.
  2. Explore natural options - to support you holistically in every life-stage that you’re at. The naturopath team created a  menopause quiz to help you find the best natural options that match your specific needs.
In our  menopause health hub you can find experts tips, naturopath top picks, and wellness articles to support you every step of the way.
  3. Be kind to yourself - When you’re in the depths of it, it can be rough. Especially if you have changes to your mood, sleep or feel tense. Go easy on yourself. A wise woman once told me, when you’re being hard on yourself or having negative self-talk – ask yourself “if this was someone I care about, like a sister or friend in the same situation – what would I say?” I often discover that I would be much kinder and nurturing - far less harsh. It’s really helped me have a kinder approach to myself.

What are your top lifestyle tips for managing menopause?

  • Limit your alchohol intake: having a healthy intake can be a game changer for supporting hot flushes. It keeps your liver healthy and more able to process estrogen and keep it in balance. Not to mention the benefits it has for your natural sleep cycle. It can feel relaxing initially, but studies show a lower alcohol intake has benefits for reaching deeper sleep phases. It will also help with mood and feeling calm. So that’s four good reasons. If you’re looking other options for your wind-down ritual – check out these Top picks for your wind down and healthy mocktail recipes.

  • Be mindful with caffeine: caffeine can make hot flushes and feelings of tension more pronounced We’re all for a functional coffee first thing, so it’s best to reach for your brew before 2pm (or even better midday) to avoid its impact on sleep.

  • Stay hydrated: drink plenty of water with added minerals to stay hydrated, which is essential for overall health and to support symptoms like hot flashes. Check out this Celtic sea salt hydrating drink.

  • Regular exercise: research shows that regular exercise can reduce menopause symptoms – yay! Also great for overall well-being. Exercise will also give you benefits for healthy weight, happy mood, and sleep quality.

  • Reach for weights: resistance exercise (either with your body weight or gentle weightlifting) builds muscle which does wonders for bone density. Not a fan of the gym? Try a few weights at home - drink bottles and heavy cans work well.

  • Mind-body practices: these are great for stress management, which is key during menopause. That’s because your stress glands take over from your ovaries to produce estrogen. So, keeping stress in check will have additional benefits for hormone balance. Gentle practices such as yoga, meditation, and deep breathing support stress management and promote relaxation. Not into it? No worries! A long walk, especially in nature, can improve your stress management – plenty of studies that confirm this.
