Super Foods - Chlorella and Spirulina for Weight Loss

Super foods are the new buzz words in natural health and for good reason. These are nutrient dense whole foods that are nature’s helpers which can be included in the modern diet to balance nutrition and support wellbeing. Spirulina and chlorella are two different types of micro-algae that can each claim the title of superfood. Their long list of benefits is impressive, and in this blog, the focus is on just one of them – support for weight management. In various clinical studies both chlorella and spirulina have produced good results in supporting people to achieve balanced weight, and there are two primary reasons for this.

Taking chlorella and spirulina for weight management is effective firstly because of their very high nutrient content. There are some special qualities that differentiate these two superfoods. Spirulina is a blue-green colour and is the greater source of GLA of the two of them. Chlorella, on the other side, is the richest known source of chlorophyll, containing five times the amount of chlorophyll than spirulina. Chlorophyll is also known as the ‘blood of plants’ which gives it an emerald green colour. It has a supportive effect on cells which make up blood as well as expressing detoxifying properties. It also contains Chlorella Growth Factor (CGF) which supports normal repair of tissues and healthy cell function.

When taken as supplements to a balanced, whole food diet and regular physical activity, chlorella and spirulina can give ongoing support not only for weight management but also for vitality and wellbeing.
